Most Common Sports Injuries And How To Prevent Them

Most of us love to spend our weekends with friends or in sports activities. However, being involved in sports can take a toll on our body and there are increased chances of sports injuries. Regardless of what sports you play, you are prone to some or the other injury and some of them are:

  • Hamstring strain
  • Groin pulls
  • Ankle sprain
  • Knee injury
  • Shin splints
  • Knee injury with patellofemoral syndrome
  • Tennis elbow

How do you prevent these injuries?

 

At times it is beyond our control to prevent the sports injuries, but there are many ways to prevent such injuries. Some of the injuries we bring on ourselves because we are not in the right condition to play that sport and some of the injuries happen because of the time and situation. However, it is a regular workout and active lifestyle that help you prevent from sports injuries to a great extent.

Start your workout right

Do not just watch a motivation video and start working out because this will only damage your muscles. Make sure that you start your workout with gentle warm-up to prevent the most common injuries. As you get warmed up it will help in increasing the blood flow to muscles. This also helps you become more flexible and decreases injuries as a result.

Start light

If you are starting to play this particular sport after a long time make sure that you do not just come out and try to hit the ball hard. Whether you are playing a team sports going hiking or running you need to make sure that you start light. This will help you prepare the relevant muscles before the strenuous activity.

Know when to stop

Most of the sports injuries happen when we do not realize when to stop. So you need to learn to stop when you are fatigued. If muscles are fatigued it will take away all the protection mechanism that is there in the body. This increases the risk of injuries and makes you prone to injury even with the lightest of impacts. Remember, if you do not get injured today, you can always come back next week and play with good health. So remember to stop when you are fatigued.

Treating the common sports injuries

 

Usually, there will be some sports injuries as you get involved in it too often. But the frequency may vary from person to person. The common injuries are mild to moderate. You can also use home remedies to treat these problems but it is best to realize that some of the common sports injuries will also take months to get fully healed. Even with a good treatment you will notice that it is taking time to heal completely. However, if a sprain or strain is severe then surgery is inevitable for example, the injuries where ligaments, tendons, or muscles are completely torn away.

If you are careful in your activities sand strengthen your muscles then there are obviously less chances of a sports injury. But if you are not careful, chances are you might have inordinate amount of accidents and hurt yourself often times. So, you need to make sure that you carefully consider the above mentioned points and get the best results out of your sports activities. Sports are to enjoy and remain fit, but if you are not careful it will only make you injured and not let you enjoy these activities. So make sure that you carefully play your sports and enjoy every bit of it.
