3 Ways To Keep Your Energy Bills Under Control This Winter

October 26, 2022 By Raymond Collins Leave a Comment

This winter could be very tough for families on a tight budget. With the prices of fuel going up, you may need to find ways to cut your costs and limit your consumption. You may also need to change your eating habits and maybe start looking at technology for help. You shouldn’t stress too much over the situation, however, as there are many things that you can do to keep your energy costs manageable. Let’s take a look at some ways that you can cut your energy bills this winter.

Invest In A Fireplace

Now could be the perfect time to start considering investing in a fireplace. Wood is generally a more cost-effective heating solution than electricity or gas, and if you’d like something that will make your house look nicer while giving you a cheap way to keep warm, getting a wood fireplace could be a great decision.

Work with a company that offers a wide variety of fireplaces and good financing options, such as Stonewoods, if you want the hit on your finances to be as minimal as possible. You can expect to get a return on your investment pretty fast and will be able to cut your heating costs for years to come.

Get Some Smart Thermostats

If you don’t have smart thermostats inside your home, you need to get some right away. They are one of the cheapest methods that you can use to reduce your heating costs and are so convenient.

Smart thermostats can be controlled at a distance through a smartphone and be set to release just enough heat at the right time. If you want to come home to a warm house, for instance, then you could turn off the heating when you leave and switch it up a few minutes before you come in.

You can also set your thermostat to shut down the heating a few hours before you go to sleep too so you can benefit from residual heat. Lower temperatures are better for sleep, so you will not notice the difference and you’ll get some of the best sleep you’ve ever had in your life.

Heat Less

Most people use too much heating on their property. The house doesn’t have to be extremely hot for it to be comfortable. If you’re over the 20°C mark all the time, you should consider lowering the heat.

You will not feel that much of a difference between a room that’s 20°C vs one that is 24°C, but it can make a big difference in your energy costs. Some experts estimated that you could save as much as  £80 per year by lowering your thermostat by one degree only, so don’t overlook the power of lowering the heat, and see if you’re being excessive in certain areas.

All of these tips could help you significantly cut your energy bills this winter and give you and your family a bit more room to breathe. Continue looking at more ways to reduce your costs and try to be more mindful of your energy consumption overall.
